According to some nutritionists, a person can even expect to lose anything between 800-1000 calories per day. Though the diet is for just seven days, it helps in following a more moderate diet in the future. However, some think it to be a short-term way to lose weight as the loss is more from the loss of water than from fat tissues. Eating the cabbage soup suppresses your appetite and burns anything for energy. You can eat as much as cabbage soup throughout the day but it can prove dangerous in some cases as it does not even give the daily share of 1000 calories.

Cabbage soup diet does not contain protein, carbohydrates and fats essential for a balanced nutrition. Cabbage soup diet only allows some fruits and vegetables on assigned days. Bananas and potatoes are not allowed except on day 2 when you can have one potato and on day 4 when you can have four bananas. On specific days of the seven day diet, you can have skim milk, fruit juice, meat and tomatoes. Foods like pasta, white rice, eggs, sugar and sugar-related products are not allowed on any of the days.

Cabbage soup diet is beneficial if you want to lose weight for any special occasion. For dieters who do not want to have a long diet program, cabbage soup diet can be helpful as it is only for a period for seven days. However, the disadvantages outnumber the advantages in this case. The diet in itself is very monotonous as it leaves with only very little option to choose from. The weight loss is only temporary and it might not change your eating habits necessary for permanent weight loss.
