Healthy long shining hair is every woman’s dream. Stress, pollution and various factors related to lifestyle appear to be taking away this gift from women these days. It is easy to say that a healthy diet will go a long way in maintaining and growing healthy hair. But what exactly must one include in the healthy diet or what is the component of the diet which will promote hair growth and prevent hair fall?

The answer to this is simple. It is also hair vitamins that promote hair growth. The required amount of vitamins combined with proteins act together to promote healthy hair. There are some things which you must know before starting the dosage of vitamins for hair growth. Do consult your physician as he is the best person who can tell you the correct vitamin as well as the dosage to be used. These vitamins take two or three months to act and show results. So it is important that you be patient as well as persistent in the usage of vitamins. Here are some common vitamins which will aid hair growth and prevent hair loss, dandruff, scaly scalp and other hair related problems.

• Vitamin A: Also known as retinol, this vitamin is an antioxidant. Milk, eggs, broccoli, cheese and spinach are a rich source of this vitamin. Carrots, beetroots, radishes and tomatoes also have a good amount of this vitamin.

• Vitamin C: Also known as ascorbic acid, this vitamin helps maintaining a glowing skin and healthy hair. This vitamin is found in cantaloupes, citrus fruits such as carrots, kiwis, oranges, grapefruits and dark green vegetables.

• Vitamin E: This vitamin helps in the blood circulation in the scalp region. Blood circulation is very essential if the hair has to grow. It must be noted that people with high blood pressure are advised against this dosage as this vitamin increases blood pressure. Hence consult your doctor before taking vitamin E supplements. It is found in wheat germ oil, vegetable oil, nuts, leafy green vegetables and dried beans.

• Biotin: Biotin prevents hair loss to a great extent. It is in fact found that consumption of biotin may also prevent graying of hair in both men and women. Biotin promotes the development of keratin. It found in egg yolk, rice, liver, meat and white brewer’s yeast.

• Inositol: Inositol keeps the hair follicles healthy. Hair follicles are the root of any hair. If the follicles are healthy, the ability of the root to hold the hair strong will be effective and hence hair fall will be uncommon. Inositol is found in liver, white brewer’s yeast and citrus fruits.

• Vitamin B3: Also known as niacin, this vitamin like vitamin E also promotes blood circulation in the scalp. It found in food items such as wheat germ, turkey, fish and meat.
