Flaxseed is derived from the flax plant which is an annual crop in Egypt. Ancient Egyptians used this herb to treat digestion related problems.
Flaxseed is more popular for the use as a laxative. The fiber present in the plant was used to make fishnets and clothes by the natives.
Flaxseed and Flaxseed oil are the most common products of consumption. These are rich in Alpha Linoleic Acids or ALA. ALA is a fatty acid which is essential for digestion as well as in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disorder, arthritis and a variety of health problems. ALA belongs to the family of omega 3 fatty acids which work along with omega 6 fatty acids to promote good health. Omega 3 fatty acids are anti inflammatory in nature.
