
Boneset is a genus belonging to the temperate regions in the North hemisphere. They are also called snakeroots.
Boneset is a poisonous species of herb plant, but may be used for medicinal purposes. Boneset is a perennial herb that is endowed with cylinder shaped stem and large lance shaped leaves. You could distinguish the plant species from its unique leaves. Flowers are white-colored, large and grow in clusters. The
boneset plant has a mild aromatic smell with astringent taste.
The parts of
boneset are said to contain volatile oil, eupatorin, resin, gum, sugar and tannic acid. This herb plant was quite popular with North American Indians, they addressed the plant as ‘Ague –weed’. From ancient times, the Americans have known to use the
boneset plant for curative purposes.
Some of its medical usages are as follows:
• Used as a remedy to eliminate excess uric acid that creates gout
• Used effectively in the treatment of dengue fever, migraine, worm problems, arthritis, malaria, diarrhea, etc.
• It may be taken in moderate doses for relief from muscular rheumatism and common cold. Large doses however may cause harm due to its poison content.
• It is best stimulant and laxative for any problems related to the stomach, liver uterus or bowel movements.
• Boneset could be used as a febrifuge for curing fevers including yellow fever and typhoid.
• Boneset is also useful in treating dyspepsia patients and those suffering from indigestion problems.
