Hemorrhoids are caused by painful vein swellings in the rectum. There are two sets of veins in the rectum and both of them may swell to cause hemorrhoid. Hemorrhoids caused by the swelling of internal veins are called internal
hemorrhoids and those caused by the swelling of external veins are called external hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids stay hidden until they become severe since they are external. But external hemorrhoids can be detected easily since they appear. External hemorrhoids appear outside the rectum and can be felt. Constipation, pregnancy liver disease etc exert huge pressure over the
hemorrhoid veins and they get swollen due to this pressure. Good medication should be provided when the symptom of bleeding occurs.
Hemorrhoid treatment depends on the severity of the disease. Undergoing sitz bath three times a day is recommended after each bowel movement. This kind of hemorrhoid treatment is a special kind of bath in which the patient has to sit in a tub of warm water. This is the best way of
hemorrhoid treatment in its early stages. Patients are advised to take a lot of liquid food, fibrous food and eat green leafy vegetables to make bulky soft stools. Moderate amounts of laxatives are also helpful to relieve constipation. Patients are suggested not to sit for a long time pressurizing the hemorrhoid veins.
Treatment for thrombosed hemorrhoid or the
hemorrhoid with a blood clot is the removal of the clot by making a small cut. This should be done by a doctor or a medical practitioner. Prolapsed internal hemorrhoid which cannot be pushed back to the anus is sometimes gently pushed back successfully by the doctor. But when this does not happen surgery may be required to remove the swelling. If the swelling is not removed surgically, it will start to die and this will cause severe infection and complications. Prolapsed hemorrhoids that cause continuous bleeding, severe pain and rectal itching surgery are the only way to cure it forever. Hemorrhoids are shrunk using a medicine to stop the blood supply and hence they die soon. Another kind of
hemorrhoid treatment is freezing them. This is called cryotherapy. Laser treatment is also done to burn them off.
After the surgery the patients are asked to perform sitz bath three times a day. This must be done after the bowel movements. Increased amount of leafy vegetables and fruit juices are beneficial to soften the stool. A softened stool creates an easy bowel movement. Stool softening medicines are prescribed to cure constipation. If pain and bleeding develop, or the patient stars to vomit it is not a safe symptom. The patient should be rushed to the emergency department and doctor should be contacted. It is always safer to prevent
hemorrhoids since the hemorrhoid treatment is complicated. High fiber diet, good liquid intake and relaxed bowel movements are an aid to prevent hemorrhoid.
