Hair loss is one of the most traumatic experiences in ones life. When it is slow it is comparatively easy to identify the cause and cure it. When a person starts losing hair suddenly an anxious phase and a frantic search for a cure promptly begins. Some major reasons for
sudden hair loss are stress, genetic reasons, underlying diseases etc. Men women and children may experience sudden hair loss. But the causes may be similar or entirely different for them.
General reasons
The general reasons for
hair loss are certain illness, surgery, prolonged deficiency of certain vitamins, disorder of the thyroid hormone, as a side effect of chemotherapy and exposure to certain toxic substances.
Causes of hair loss in men
Hair loss in men commonly occurs due to genetic reason. Men who have a family history of baldness will tend to become bald over the years. This is commonly called men pattern baldness. This can be inherited from the family of both father and mother. The male hormones called androgens make the hair follicles shrink and they become unable to let the hair sprout again. This is how men pattern baldness occurs. Sometimes small patches of
hair loss due to dandruff, ring worm or some other fungal diseases. If diagnosed properly, they can be treated easily. Another kind of hair loss in men is alopecia areata. During this disease, a patch of hair falls from the scalp and when hair in this patch grows up another patch of hair falls. There is no medication for this but it gets cured by automatically in a year.
Hair loss in women
Hair loss in women mainly occurs due to nutritional deficiencies, exposure to toxins, hair styles that pull hair strands etc. The deficiency of certain vitamins, hemoglobin, etc will cause severe
hair loss and this can be easily treated by treating the causes. Exposure to harsh chemicals while perming straightening coloring etc may damage hair irreversibly. There are many hair styles that exert pressure on the root of hair and pull them out. They permanently damage the hair follicles. Skin disorders on the scalp also cause heavy hair loss. Pattern baldness seldom occurs for women, but sometimes women also face pattern baldness.
Hair loss in children
There are many causes for hair loss in children. Fungal infections, alopecia areata, hairstyles involving strong pull on the root of hair, telogen effluvium, nutritional deficiencies, surgery, chemotherapy etc will result in severe hair loss. Tenia capitis is a common fungal infection in children which is the reason for hair loss. In this disease small patch of hair fall and baldness appears in many parts of the scalp. Tenia capitis is uncommon after the children reach teenage. Pony tails, braids etc also cause hair fall in children.
Sudden stress will also result in hair fall in children. The actual reason has to be diagnosed and then treated to cure any kind of hair fall.
