Eye Care

Eyes are the window to the world. It is imperative that being one of the most sensitive parts of the body, they need great care and attention in order to keep them healthy. A lot of effort goes into taking care of eyes. With the increase in dust, pollution and many harmful agents in the atmosphere, the eyes are bound to get affected as hey come in contact with these agents first.

Eye care for people who wear glasses or contact lens

Never compromise on the quality of the eyeglasses or lens for the cost is the first rule in eye care. You might benefit from it in the short run, but over a period of time, your eye will throw up serious problems some of which may not even be curable. If you are wearing lens, remember to remove it before retiring for the day. Never sleep with the lens. Also avoid wearing lens in smoky and polluted areas. These may irritate your eyes cause them to itch. When you experience an irritation, never rub the eyes. Immediately pat the eyes with cold water and if the irritation persists, visit the ophthalmologist (eye doctor) immediately.

Wearing coolers is considered cool and stylish. But the primary reason why cooling glasses need to be worn is because they protect you from the harmful ultra violet rays of the sun. Never face direct sunlight. Here are some tips to keep in mind when you go buy your sunglasses.

• Avoid the colorful glasses which may be available on the street sides or in the tiny corner shop down the road. These are simply colored glasses with no protection at all from any component of the sunlight! These harm your eyes in the long run and may give frequent headaches.

• Purchase the dark glasses from a reputed shop and ensure with the shopkeeper if it is coated to protect you from the UV and infra red components of the sunlight. Do not compromise on the quality.

Some general tips for healthy eyes
  • Do not stare the computer screen for too long. Blinking is the body’s way to keep the eyes lubricated. For every half an hour that you stare at the computer screen, look at a distant object or just simply close your eyes and relax for five minutes.
  • Placing a slice of cucumber on the eyes before going to bed soothes you and relaxes the eyes.
  • Wiping your eyes with a pat of cold rose water dipped in cotton also produces the same effect of relaxation. Puffiness can also be removed by doing this.
  • Remove all eye makeup before going to bed. Avoid using eye make up which need to be applied inside the eyes. Sometimes, they may cause irritation and result in redness.
  • There is no good treatment like a good night’s sleep to keep your eyes sparkling. Although eight hours of sleep is what is recommended, very few people in this fast paced world enjoy that luxury. Make sure that you get at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Practice these simple easy to follow habits and watch the world through a sparkling crystal window.
