The no pain diet plan!

The low carb diet plan of Atkins has stirred up quite a lot of interest among the health conscious lot and it has become popular as the “Father of Modern Low Carb Diets.” The Atkins diet plan works on the basic theme of a low carb diet coupled with personalized diet options to suit the varied requirements of people. This diet plan summarized in the book titled Dr Robert C. Atkins’s new diet revolution, which was released in 1992 was a huge success.

Atkins diet food emphasize on including low glycemic carbohydrate while permanently chucking out sugars and refined grains. There are four phases for Atkins diet: Initial phase of Induction, Ongoing Weight Loss or (OWL), Pre-maintenance, and finally Maintenance. The induction phase involves stringent restrictions in the diet, and its duration might vary from case to case, depending on the individual response to the diet and the weight of the person. This phase is conveniently structured with a lot of options to pick up; it even allows you to add small quantities of carbohydrates as well.

During this stage you can take common protein foods, such as meat or eggs, cheeses or vegetables. Remember to select those vegetable that have no or little carbohydrates. Include lots of fresh water fish and food items rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. Olive oil, canola, and grapeseed oil are ideal options. It is better to avoid corn, and other oils that are rich in Omega-6 polyunsaturated fat. Individual tolerance levels hold a key to all these plans. All you have to do is to pick up the basic idea of the recommended amount of carbohydrate to be included in your daily diet.

Drink plenty of water as it is highly recommended in Atkins diet health plan; Herbal teas, or Soda water are also recommended. Atkins grapefruit diet involves consumption of huge quantities of grapes, which is thought to be helpful in reducing weight. It is believed that grapes contain a fat burning enzyme that gives quick results. However, remember that though a grapefruit diet might cut down on your calories it does not ensure a balanced diet.

During the Induction Phase significant weight loss of up to 10 pounds are reported. However it is not an established rule, as it tends to be different in different persons. In obese people induction coupled with a daily work out is found to be more beneficial. If you wish, you can also use the dieter monitor of Ketostix- these are strips used by diabetic patients and they indicate once the fat burning phase sets in.

The next phase of ongoing weight loss focuses on the enhancement of the intake of carbohydrates. You can start off by adding vegetables and move slowly to dairy products, nut, fruits, starchy vegetables and finally grains. The Pre-maintenance phase involves further enhancement of carb intake without the risk of weight gain, which translates to the maximum number of carbohydrates that you can consume without adding on to the weight. The last phase of lifetime maintenance helps you to stick on to the food habits gained in the earlier stages without reverting to your old habits.
