There are times when proteins from cow’s milk cause adverse reactions in the immune system of the body. The preliminary symptoms arise as with respiratory, dermatological or gastrointestinal problems.
Milk allergy often go on to translate themselves to rashes and hives besides leading the patient in to a state of acute diarrhea and vomiting. Distress and constipation are also other forms of manifestation of milk allergy.
Many people confuse milk allergy with lactose intolerance.
Milk allergy is a kind of an immune response of a patient’s body to the protein present in the milk. Such reactions can be unobserved in non allergic people. Lactose intolerance is, however, is not
allergic in origin and hence not triggered by the immune system of the body. It occurs due to the scanty presence of lactose digesting enzymes in the body.
The cure to such an
allergy is obviously to avoid all milk and all its derivatives like cheese, curd, butter and cream. Some other products containing casein, lactic acid, natural butter flavour or any types of casein derivatives, also imply active milk content in them. Patients are to avoid such food and supplements. Instead going for cookies, prepared meat, soy cheese, margarine, cakes, soups and potato chips as a substitute could be helpful as an alternative source of protein intake.
Milk is a tough thing to avoid. So in case of
milk allergies, milk substitutes like oat milk, almond milk or soy milk are a good idea. There is nothing to be worried about because about 2-3% kids of developed countries are victims of milk allergy!
